And the winner is ...

There were a whopping 4 people who entered my 5th Blogoversary draw: Kim,  Dale Anne, Dorothy and Maija
And ta-da, Dorothy's name came out of the old draw hat. Congratulations Dorothy! I'm very happy that you entered this 4~in~1~chance drawing. *smiles*    Also it's ever so handy that you happen to live close by so you won't have to wait too long to claim your prize!
So what does Dorothy win? She is the recipient of a girly-girl Shelf Sitter that I created with a wonderful Ralph Waldo Emerson quote on it. I hope she has a nice shelf to put her pretty hand-painted Shelf Sitter on.

I do appreciate everyone who stops by my blog, whether they leave comments or not. Here's to another great year of blogging at Art of Humungous Proportions: Where ART

and LIFE meet.

It's a Blogoversary giveaway!

It's been five years since I took my first step into Blogland; what an adventure this has been! I don't blog every single day like some, I don't have the perfect looking blog. But I do appreciate all you who venture over to ART of Humungous Proportions (where Art and Life meet) to see what creative madness I am up to at any given moment.

When I was trying to choose a graphic to use for this special post, I thought "Birthday Cakes" and then I thought of Lace Cakes! You will notice the beautiful Lace Cake pictured here. It is the gorgeous invention of my sweet friend, Laura of the ever-beautiful All about Pretty blog. This particular Lace Cake is available in her Etsy shop here.

I will be holding a giveaway in celebration of my 5th year of blogging. Just leave a comment below ~ tell me something you have enjoyed on this blog along the way, or what you would like to see in the future, and I'll put your name into a draw for a handmade creation by moi. If you mention the giveaway on your blog with a link back here, I'll put your name into the draw two times ~ yay!

The draw date will be Saturday, March 20th.
Spread the word, share the fun!

And the winners are ...

Today Greg and I celebrate our 23rd anniversary!
Wow ~ hard to believe that it's been that long already.

And today I'm announcing what I'm giving away for
my 4th Blogoversary prize.
As I was deciding what that should be,
I thought since it was my Blogoversary and Anniversary,
I should award not one, but two prizes.

For last week's Fine Art in the Library, I created two objet de'art
imitating the style of Marc Chagall. These are the pieces that I will give away.

The first, a 10"x12" acrylic painting, on canvas
"Angel of Peace" goes to
Karyn Hutchinson of Musings from Me

The second giveaway, an 8.5"x11" soft pastel on repurposed card stock
"Evening Song" goes to
Kel of My Ladies Fine Designs and The Holy Land

Karyn and Kel, please contact me so that I can send these out to you.
And thank you to everyone else for your comments and best wishes!

Blog Interview #17 ~ Heidi, Dreams Intertwined

Blog hopping is a little hobby of mine. Usually I start out with blogs that I visit regularly and then I peruse their links and hop from one to another to another. This is how I discovered Heidi's lovely blog, Dreams Intertwined.

Thank you for doing this interview; please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a stay at home with 3 children, well not really, because I work for an estate sale
company, have a booth at an antique mall, an Etsy shop, and I create little "handmades" and sell them in local boutiques, SO I am rarely "at home!" I come from a creative family. My father was always building something in his workshop (amongst other talents), my mother is a jewelry and fiber artist, and my sister makes cool jewelry out of vintage parts and works in the music industry.

Why did you decide to blog?

I started blogging to keep a "journal" and share my endeavors.

How did you decide on Dreams Intertwined?
I named it that because I wanted it to be a blog about all my dreams (or favorite things) concerning my family, my home, my finds, my craft and business endeavors, and my faith and ideas, and coming together, intertwining...

What date did you blog for the very first time and what did you talk about on your very first post?
I read others' blogs for about a year before I took the plunge in December 2007. My first post was entitled "Welcome to my blog!" original, huh? I talked about why I named my blog dreams intertwined and what my plans were for blogging.

Do you usually blog with pictures and words or mostly pictures or mostly words?

Both, but personally I am drawn to blogs with great pictures, so I try hard to post a lot of photos.

Have you met people through blogging?
Making new friends and cultivating those relationships online is an art form itself, no? I have met many new friends through blogging, which has led to swaps, and attending Silver Bella, where I met some of those blogging friends in person.

Describe a friendship you've established through blogging.
One friend I met through blogging I roomed with at Silver Bella last November. We keep up with each other through emails and our blogs, but have also talked about going to visit each other over the summer.

Did you design your blog or did you have it professionally done?
I have done my own "design", if you want to call it that ~ through Blogger tools. I have thought about having it professionally done, but haven't pulled the trigger on that mainly because I like to change things up.

Have you ever been featured in Artful Blogging?
Wouldn't that be a coup?

What does your "About Me" read on your blog?
"On this blog you will find Me, being Me. Part wife, part mom, art artist, part entrepreneur, and part decorator with a pinch of ADHD (not a joke). Focus is not my strong suit, but rearranging is! Here you will read, willy nilly as I write; about family escapades, tales of thrifting, adventures in arts and crafts, exploits of my home decorating, and anything new that catches my fancy! Hopefully, somewhere along the way, my contributions to my family, my friends and my community will be full of love, beauty, grace, gratitude and whimsy!"

What feature on your blog do you like the most?
I like the traffic feed, I am curious to know who visits my blog.

Is there anything on your blog you'd like to change?
Oh everything should change every once in a while. I like change.

Do you ever blog when you don't "feel like it"?
I can't think of a time.

Give me four words that best describe dreams intertwined?
Fun, flighty, artsy, whimsical.

Do you have any interesting directions you want to take your blog in, in the future?
I am thinking about opening a blog shop.

Is there anything else you'd like to add, Heidi?
I love feedback, so please comment if you come by my blog, even if it is just to say hi! Thanks. I really enjoy your blog, Dawn and have been loving reading all the interviews!

PLEASE NOTE:
1. Blogger is being nasty to me today. I am having trouble uploading photos, so I apologize for how Heidi's photos are all bunched together and the fact I couldn't include more. Would someone please fix the bugs on this Blogger program?!
2. Also, please add your name to my Blogoversary giveaway.
The draw will take place on March 29th.

My 4th Blogoversary is today!

Yep, today's the day of my 4th Blogoversary!
Hard to believe I've been taking up this little spot in cyberspace for so long, but it has been fun.

Speaking of fun, I am going to have a Blog Giveaway in celebration of blogging for oh, so long. What is the prize? Good question.
Let's just say it'll be something created by me.

Leave me a comment at the end of this post. Then, on March 29th, I'll make a draw and contact the winner. Simple as that. No need to link back and forth between my blog and yours, unless you want to.

Now let's take a look back, pictorially, over the past 4 years on ART of Humungous Proportions!

Of blog interviews and winter grub

The other day, my son said to me: "You should start a blog for just interviews, otherwise people will think that your Humungous Art blog is just an interview blog."

I explained to him that I was doing these interviews leading up to my 4th Blogoversary, to learn more about the blogs (and their creators) that I've included in my Beautiful Blogs section, and to share them with the readers of Art of Humungous Proportions.

So, in case you think that the only thing I do on this blog is talk about other people's art, it isn't the case. Read on.

Today is a blustery day. The snow just won't stop falling.
It's the kind of day that one simply wants to hunker down, listen to Vinyl Cafe, drink herbal tea and try to do something creative.

Seems during the winter months here in northern Alberta, when it's cold outside, all we do is eat (the rest of the year we spend trying to rid ourselves of the weight we've accumulated over the winter).

So, speaking of food ... what I'm thinking is, is that I'll show you an idea for a mid-winter lunch.

First fry up some perogies. I like to pan fry frozen perogies and then just before serving time, I slice up some onions and fry them in butter.

Next make a salad.
Lately I've been using Balsamic Vinegar and Extra Virgin Olive Oil as my preferred salad dressing.

Oh! and don't forget dessert.

The Black Forest cake above is one of my mother-in-law's beautiful creations.

Blog Interviews coming soon!

My 4th year Blogoversary is approaching in a mere 26 days. I will be having a giveaway draw for that, but first, I wanted to tell you about a new feature I plan to implement on Humungous Proportions.

In the next little while, I will be contacting the bloggers who are
Blog Favourites of Mine (as noted on the right hand column of this blog), asking them to do an interview with me which I will, in turn share the interview with you.

It should be great fun getting to know these intriguing individuals a little more, featuring their blogs and introducing them to some new folks out there in the world wide web!

Stay tuned to see who will be the first
Humungous Blog Interview guest.

Blogoversary winning portrait

Caren Mcnee was the very first person to leave a comment on my 3rd Blogoversary post and was the name pulled out of the pointy party hat draw ~ I'm sure that doesn't happen very often. Anyhoo, I finished her portrait yesterday and here it is. I'm not terribly happy with the colour reproduction of this photograph, (it's much richer in person) but you can get an idea of what the painting looks like. I've added a little photo of Caren with the portrait here, so you can check out the uncanny resemblance between Caren and her portrait. Hehee!

I'm hoping that when the portrait arrives at Caren's house, that she'll have her photo taken holding the portrait as I am trying to collect photos of people with their Wide-eyed Portraits for my files.

Kiwi Caren measures 12 inches x 16 inches. You may want to start looking for a frame, Caren. Let's hope the Canada Post's canoe paddles your painting to you quickly!

Finally, I can post this photo ...

When I was in Langley for my sister, Madeline's wedding, I had a chance to have a great visit with my niece Carla. We stayed up to the wee hours of the morning ~ let's put it to you this way ... when her little guy woke up in the middle of the night, she didn't have to wake up to tend to him ... she was already (or I should say STILL awake). Anyway, I was telling her about these quirky portraits that I was creating, and she said she'd love to have one. So as a "thank you" for her hospitality, I painted a Wide-eyed Portrait entitled "Carla's World of Colour" and sent it home with Madeline when she was out in Alberta recently. Carla finally received the painting tonight, so I can safely post it on my blog. This painting's a little different than the previous portraits because it is a night time scene. Ya, I know, have a little of the Faux Gogh going here.
Well, it's getting late for me, cuz I have to be up by 5 a.m., so I'll say ta-ta for now. But please come back tomorrow as I plan to post the portrait that I just finished of Caren, that she won in the Blogoversary draw.

And the winner is ...

As promised, it's time to announce the winner
of the Blogoversary draw...
Can you read the name? My son Zach helped me by pulling the name out of the hat. The winner is (drum roll is heard in the distance) ... Caren McNee of New Zealand. Caren, please email me the following information:
1. Your eye and hair colour
2. Favourite colours
3. Your favourite past times, interests etc.
4. Any other detail you think may assist me in creating your portrait.
5. Your mailing address
I'm looking forward to painting this portrait, Caren. And I am hoping too, that the mail system will deliver it to you safe and sound.

Thank you to everyone who left a comment, and be watching for the completed portrait to be posted on the blog at a later date.

Draw date approaching fast

To enter my Blogoversary draw (a one-of-a-kind portrait), make sure you leave a comment on my blog before March 22nd when all the entrants' names will be put into a pointy hat and a winner will be announced. If you win, you'll need to supply me with a few facts about yourself, so that the portrait will truly portray who you really are.
So you can think about them, here's my little list:
1. Your eye and hair colour
2. Favourite colours
3. Your favourite past times, interests etc.
4. Any other detail you think may assist me in creating your portrait.

eyes are the window to the soul ~ are they not?

Happy Blogoversary to me!

Guess what? This weekend marks my 3rd year of blogging. If you look wayyyy back into my blog archives, you'll see it all started on March 15th 2005. A lot has happened in 3 years ~ some good, some bad ~ but mostly good stuff.

I've experimented in all sorts of ART, met a lot of awesome friends. I have a lot to be thankful for.

I should have been a little more prepared because I wanted to do a giveaway when my Blogoversary arrived this year. Hmm ... maybe I still can do something. Let's see ... how about if I create a portrait of the winner. If you leave a comment on this post, I will put your name in a hat (pointy birthday hat, of course) and you will have a chance to win a one of a kind Wide-eyed Portrait by moi.

So leave a comment already, people ~ and party on!
